The Recruiting Game Plan: October 2026

Welcome to The Recruiting Game Plan. Every month I'll share what we're seeing in college recruiting and NIL. It comes from our day-to-day work with athletes, families and schools, in addition to our conversations with college coaches. You'll get insights into the recruiting landscape from an insider's perspective, with tactics you can capitalize on now.
Has your athlete's recruiting gone quiet?
It's a common occurrence at this stage. Staffs are busy with their own seasons and locking down their priority recruits for a limited number of high school spots. While programs may move to prioritizing transfers, that doesn't mean opportunities have dried up.
What to do now:
- Send periodic progress highlights to coaches
- Keep your video and social media updated
- Expand your pool and build a parallel path of colleges
Does reclassing or holding an athlete back help?
In most cases, no. It doesn't reliably help recruiting, and under the NCAA's new age-based eligibility model, it can cost an athlete a year or more of college eligibility. It's a bet on development that's hard to make at 13 or 14.
The SEC just standardized NIL contracts. Do they protect athletes?
No. The SEC aggressively announced it is, like the Big Ten, adopting uniform contracts and nothing suggests athletes had a say in writing them. I've read the Big Ten agreement and agreements from SEC schools and they egregiously protect the college at the athlete's expense. Standardized doesn't mean fair.
Demand your athlete's contract ASAP and have an NIL/Revenue Share contract expert read it before you commit. Your leverage fades fast once you pledge.
Want help with your athlete's recruiting or a contract?
